How credit works

If your account is in credit, it will either go towards your next bill or you will receive a refund.

Why your account may be in credit

You may have built up credit if you have been overpaying.

This usually happens if you make regular payments, typically by Direct Debit.

How to check if you are in credit

If your account is in credit, the balance on your bill will have ‘CR’ after it.

The number before the ‘CR’ is the amount of credit you have built up.

What will happen if you’re in credit

If you are a metered customer

If your account shows over £50 of credit and we've read your meter, we will automatically issue a refund for the balance.

Anything below £50 will roll over to the next billing period.

If you are an unmetered customer

If your account shows credit once you have finished paying your annual bill, the remaining credit will roll over to the next billing period.

Request a refund

If you would prefer to have your credit refunded to you, please contact us.

If you pay by Direct Debit, it will be sent directly to your bank account.

If not, we will send you a cheque by post within five working days of your request.

If you owe money

If your balance does not have 'CR' next to it, you owe that amount.
