Update on business plan appeal

We have received the final determination of Wessex Water’s business plan, setting out how and where we will invest between now and 2030.

Last year we asked the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to review how much we can invest in vital upgrades to our water and sewerage services, which is regulated by Ofwat.

Over the past 12 months we’ve worked closely with the CMA and our regulators to secure approval for nearly £4 billion of new investment across the Wessex Water region.

This will fund critical water and sewerage treatment improvements, schemes to reduce storm overflow discharges and the removal of nutrients from treated wastewater discharges so housebuilding can continue at key locations like the Somerset Levels.

What does this mean for customer bills?

We now have approval for a 3.3% rise in annual customer bills for 2026/27, which in real terms is around £20 per household. Our total increase for the business plan period is 20%, which will happen gradually up to 2030.

Of course, we understand the prospect of any bill rise can be worrying and we have a range of help available to customers - including flexible payment plans, payment breaks, debt support and more.
